Heart of a Legend Foundation Founder: Eileen M. Spengler, RCS, CRS
Heart of a Legend Foundation Eileen M. Spengler, RCS, CRS is the founder of Heart of a Legend Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Phoenix, Arizona with a focus on cardiac testing for high school, college, former NFL and NBA players. She also is the owner of Clare Diagnostic Echo & Research, LLC, performing diagnostic cardiac testing on patients participating in clinic trials for pharmaceutical companies and last but not least she is the Director of Adult Echocardiography Program at a local college. Due to having sibling athletes they were and are prone to cardiac disease as well which is where the interest came into play. But not until after her husband Thomas, also a former athlete suffered a heart attack at the young age of 33 Eileen found the importance to finding heart disease or abnormalities prior to playing sports instead of treating after an episode or the unfortunate silent killer of Sudden Cardiac Death. With numbers of SCD in athletes increasing on a yearly basis it was time to bring the awareness and begin screening as many young players as possible. She has hosted many events along with her students performing EKG & Echocardiograms all at no cost.
Eileen was born in New Jersey and grew up outside of Philadelphia. She moved to Arizona with her husband and their two daughters. A graduate of the Arizona Heart Institute, School of Cardiac Ultrasound, an elected alumni of the Mayo School of Health Science, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. A member of Youth Sports Safety Alliance. Eileen has received numerous awards and recognition for advocacy in Heart Health Awareness and Sudden Cardiac Death in Athletes. She plays an active role in cardiac health for former NFL & NBA players in Arizona, California, Texas and Florida.
