In our ongoing “Who’s Next” series we let you know about athletes who we believe are going to be the next big names in High School sports. Well, if you’re looking for the next BIG thing in football, you have to get to know George Brown Jr.

George is only a sophomore and he stands 6’6” tall and weighs a lean 243 lbs. He is the starting tight end for the 7th ranked team in the nation (as of the writing of this article), the Colerain Cardinals of Cincinnati Ohio. Many times when an athlete is so big at a young age he is somewhat uncoordinated because he hasn’t fully grown into his body, but that is not the case with Brown. As expected, George can dominate his opponents physically. But what makes him such an outstanding athlete and future college prospect is that he has excellent footwork, quick hands, great balance and stability.

It is attributes like this that have many top college football programs already showing interest in this outstanding young student-athlete. Schools showing interest in George so far are the University of Cincinnati, Boston College, Auburn, Louisville, Kentucky, Bowling Green, Miami of Ohio, Mississippi State, Toledo, West Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia Tech. And this list keeps growing as more college coaches are hearing the name George Brown Jr.

George started playing football when he was only 4 years old when he played on his father’s little league team, the Mid City Panthers. At first he was not the biggest kid on the team but, because of his athletic ability, always played on the teams a grade higher than his. Eventually George did outgrow most of his peers and then there was no stopping him. But he does not rely on his size and natural athletic ability; he works at getting better every day. George plans on working hard this off season to increase his size, strength, speed and agility. That’s a scary thought if you are one of his opponents.

Add to all of this the fact that George has an excellent support system in his family and I believe there is no limit to the future success of this young man. His brother, Aaron, played football at Virginia Tech until an injury ended his playing days. His brother, Patrick Tucker, played Junior College ball at Fort Scott CC in Kansas. And his Mom and Dad fully support every goal and dream George wants to achieve.

When asked what football has taught him, George replied “to go hard at everything I do because you never know when it’s your last play”. And he takes that approach in the classroom as well; going hard and achieving a 3.3 GPA. That type of academic discipline will come in handy in college as George would like to major in law.

An excellent run and pass blocker, he sees himself playing defensive end or offensive tackle at the college level. And, seeing that he is still growing, I believe every college coach in the country would be happy to have George Brown Jr on either side of the ball for their team.

When not playing or training for football George likes to play basketball and really enjoys working with his little brother to help him get better at sports.
